A Closer Look: Patrick
Patrick and Robin get a taste of what the world might have been like had they not met when they did, courtesy of this week's big fantasy sequence. Jason Thompson explains why Patrick has a wonderful life.
SOW asks if Patrick spends Wednesday dreaming about life without Robin and Emma.
JT says the concept is basically what would have happened if Scrubs didn't get together when they did. Patrick hooks up with Carly and Liz and Robin dates Matt for a "couple of days."
SOW asks if the episode is told solely from Patrick's POV or does Robin get to have a dream as well.
JT says that Robin gets some dream sequences; she gets her fantasy. In her dream she's dating Matt, which is interesting. About halfway through the episode Patrick finds out Matt is his brother.
SOW wonders if Patrick and Robin appearach in each other's dreams.
JT says yes, it doesn't really play out like a dream, that it's more like a couple of months smashed into one day.
SOW says that it seems to come from Patrick's previous Thanksgivings when he would take a vacation.
JT confirms that Patrick would go away because he didn't have a family and that's what Thanksgiving is really about. His dad wasn't around and his mom was dead and he no idea about Matt. So he'd leave and go do his bachelor thing. But now things are obviously different! He's got a baby and a fiancee and also a brother, he's really enjoying it. JT wouldn't say that Patrick is nostalgic for what he used to be. He understands that his life is different and he loves it.
SOW asks how Patrick's dream plays out.
JT laughs and says that the dream goes back to his womanizing days. It was fun for him to be the way Patrick used to be. It was fun back in the day and it was fun to do it again for a day.
SOW notes that practically the entire episode is Patrick and Robin, was it hard to tape?
JT says it was very hard. On a daily basis they already do a lot, like shooting a movie a day, but when you're in every single scene it's a test. He says he woke up that day and thought if he could get through this he can get through other things. By the end he and Kimberly were exhausted, mentally and physically but it was fun.
SOW asks if it was tough to get back into Patrick's playboy ways.
JT says he'd like to say it was, but it really wasn't. He says it's still in Patrick a little bit. It's just written differently. What he used to say, Patrick doesn't say anymore, but in this episode he does.
SOW says that JT doesn't usually get a ton of scenes with LW or BH, so how was that.
JT says that just to work with Becky was great and he love to work with Laura. He doesn't get to work with them that often. It's not bad when you get to work with these women all day, you know?
SOW asks if he show actual make-out scenes with them.
JT says that yes, with Becky and Laura and he made out with Kimberly. All three of them were very professional.
SOW asks wouldn't Patrick want to hook up with Leyla.
JT says oh, yeah, she's in there, too. Robin walks in on Patrick and Leyla making out in the shower.
SOW says it sounds like fun, does Patrick find happiness as a tomcat?
JT says that Liz tells him Carly will always love someone else, JT thinks it's a reference to Sonny. Patrick tells her yeah, and it's not him. With Liz it's more like Liz thinks he's great and she had a really good time with him but realistically speaking, she has two kids and he doesn't want any. Both Liz and Carly have a good time with him, but at the end of the day he's not the guy they are going to grow old with.
SOW asks if everyone learns a lesson in the end.
JT says that the moral of the story is basically "Love will come around." If you are meant to be with someone, you will be with them in life. It's not always how you planned or when you planned, but you will end up together.
SOW says that it sounds like a hopeful holiday message for Scrubs fans.
JT says that it's good for fans to see how their lives could have gone, but at the end, when fans walk back to the turkey and grab another leg, they'll know their couple is meant to be together.

Editor's Opinion
The sudden spike in emotional content over the past couple of weeks has been a welcome counterpoint to the same old dull mob shenanigans. I would much rather see Patrick worry about Robin and bond with his new daughter than I would care to endure yet another explosion in yet another alley or a freighter carrying unspecified "shipments." Contrasting Karpov and Sonny trying to kill each other with Laura's agonizing over walking away from Luke and his "new" wife clearly demonstrates which is the stronger story. Romance blows away the rogues. - Joe Diliberto

Buzz...
JT reveals that Emma Grace was a conscious choice of name by the writers, to give Patrick and Robin's wee one individuality and ensure she won't be burdened by the pressures of any legacy. He says the name doesn't have any significance, which he thinks is great. He's also glad they went with a normal name, not something connected to a relative and something she's got to try and live up to. She's just her own person. Everything is usually so connected, which obviously makes our soaps what they are, but it's nice to have this little girl be on her own; be her own person. He notes that Scrubs mentioned names a couple of times, but there wasn't any scene where they discussed her maybe being Emma Grace. They just mentioned this is who she is.
JT gets Applause, Applause.
For his work when Robin was in a coma.
"Fans shared that awe, at Thompson's superlative work."

Daytime Dish (source and source):
11/19
The first 2 wks in December, Liz has scenes with Jason, Lucky, Sam, Cameron, Olivia, Sonny, and a phone call with Robin but you see both of them onscreen.
Hi guys, I used to post here a lot a couple years ago, but had to go dark for awhile because of some backstage stuff going on with my source. That situation has improved a lot. There are a lot of rewrites going on right now, which may be why your normal insiders are not coming around as much. You can blame the changes in Nielson for this. They had to totally revamp timelines to coincide with March instead of Feb sweeps. A lot of the breakdowns that are out right now are off as there is a slowdown in the stories.
Can you give us anything on Scrubs?
Right now they have the highest ranking in focus groups as of early this year. In fact, they were the only couple tested that did well, which is why a lot of the current couples are being re-paired. Until they clean up the rest of the mess on this show Scrubs will not get trashed. The stuff will the parenting issues is considered minor "angst." If they can get TR to sign on to it Scrubs, Anna and Robert may get a storyline adventure in the new year.
Ok, have to run.
But before I go, I should tell DD that I am traveling and so my IP will be changing next time I post. Sorry, nothing I can do about that.

No final decision on NS3 until after the holidays.
F.A.F.
[regarding the hoopla about the Thanksgiving episode]
If you recall there was an eppy of NS2 entitled "We will always have Paris" written by a GH writer. SR chose to alter the script in that the female patient projected her former lover onto Patrick. The original script entailed Patrick being the former lover.
Choices...the means to the end matter to the audience.
