In the article re: Jason/Elizabeth, there's a Robin mention. She's cited as part of the reason that Liz decides to tell Jason that she wants to be with him because after Robin babysits Cam & Jake, she admires Liz for raising her kids as a single mom and, of course, for Jason. There's a quote from BH about how now that Emily's dead, Robin's the only other person besides Liz who knows that Jason can do his job and still be a loving person. (source)

Rubbish. Leyla was only ever meant to be a temporary plot point in Patrick & Robin's story. Along with Jason & Liz, the pairing of P&R has been extremely well received on the show. Not to say that it may not happen sometime in the future but they are far from done with P&R and there was no serious "triangle" planned. Leyla was to represent Patrick's return to his player ways and his half-hearted attempt at moving on. However screwed up Night Shift turned out to be, Guza and Jill had no intention of making Patrick & Leyla a true couple as P&R were far from played out. NS was created partly in response to viewers requesting more P&R. They also wanted to test out the waters for original programming on SN. Despite the significant decrease in ratings for the show, NS was a "success" as far as they are concerned. The ratings decline was not attributed to P&R and not to P&L but to the change and loss of focus as the series progressed. The story they originally intended to play out was revised and re-tooled so many times that they were soon adopting the attitude of "We'll fix it next season". NS2 or not, Leyla or no Leyla, P&R is still the story. Was then and still is now.

Patrick brings Robin ribs from Eli’s when she starts having pregnancy cravings. Patrick holds his tongue when Robin asserts her confidence that she’ll be able to handle everything on her own.
April 1
Robin realizes single motherhood might not be so easy when Elizabeth asks her to look after Jake and Cameron. Robin tells Elizabeth she thinks Jason would make a great father despite his career choice. Patrick asks Robin out to dinner and she accepts.
April 2
After an awkward start, Patrick and Robin end up enjoying their dinner date. Robin falls asleep on Patrick’s shoulder as he voices his desire to be a part of their baby’s life.
April 7
Patrick has Robin’s best interests at heart

Patrick wonders what type of father he’ll be.

Ian was originally slated as part of the continuing Jiz vs. Lusam storyline. There was a planned reason behind "his change"(Patrick referred to that either) and there wasn't a plan ot make him an out and out bad guy. He had reasons(secret pain) for his behavior. I'm not sure if that is holding true or not. It seems like they are going more in the direction of evil with the character right now.
Can you tell me what happen to NB?
I guess you could say her storyline was dropped although her importance to the storyline was always exaggerated on Soap Dish. No one at the show ever saw her as a true threat to Scrubs. She was just a 3rd party in the storyline. She was also never suppose to be paired with Ian. Ian has been planned for "interaction" with Sam since the day he was hired. I think he has a reason for seeking out Cassadines. That was the original plan at least. I'm a little confused about some of his upcoming scenes because it was my understanding that the extent of his villianry was suppose to be somewhat ambiguous. They seem to be going with full out and out bad guy now. So something may have changed with Guza's return. I honestly don't know. But he was never planned as a love interest for NB (source)

Two "insiders":
Catching up on a discussion earlier this evening and wanted to offer a little insider perspective. Guza and JFP wanted more for Patrick/Leyla (they consider her more his type, whatever that means) but they was reigned in after the test drive on NS didn't work out too well. Both of them really like NB and thought she was a terrific find which is why her role on NS got changed. Originally the killer and the person from Medcam were supposed to be two different people. Jolene was the Medcan spy and Leyla was slated to be the killer. That changed in hopes that Ptrick/Leyla would take off. Needless to say people above them realized from the ratings after Patrick and Leyla's fling started in earnest on NS that they were not to be. Still they tried again with trying to make Leyla the put upon heroine during the ball but that more to make her work than Patrick/Leyla. As was her third incarnation and plucky nurse who plays the players.
All of this is to say patrick/Leyla would have been a lot more if Guza and JFP had their way. I imagine if Ric/Reese, for example, got a test drive on another show then they too would have been a lot less on regular GH.

Well you would be wrong. Guza and JFP really wanted them to work. Others were skeptical that they would but Guza and JFP were allowed to use NS to test their viability. They found out quickly they weren't viable. You are correct that they considered the concept test a success but they also realized the shift in and loss of focus was the reason for the decline and big part of that shift in focus the way the Patrick/Robin/Leyla story was shifted around. Like I said Guza was hoping they would be a big success on NS (mainly because he really though NB was a find) and they weren't so whatever plans he may have had for GH were quickly

This stuff about NS and Guza/Phelps loving Peyla makes me nervous that they will try it once again.
He won't. After it failed so badly on NS he was reigned in where they were concerned. Now he still wanted to sell Leyla and had no other conduit he thought but through Patrick which is why they tried the heroine route during the ball and then the plucky nurse route at the beginning of the year.
He was trying to find a personality that fit for Leyla but as I said he also had been severely reigned in because of how NS faltered after he went full bore for Patrick/Leyla. After that they were never a consideration on GH but Guza still wanted the character to work but he had no idea where to put her but with Patrick which is why he was the one a new personality was tested with.
