Five Reasons Why Scrubs Are Special

For the first post, I thought I would start with why I thought this fanbase continues to be invested in Robin and Patrick as a couple....

They have tons of chemistry with each other
Many couples on the show have comfortable chemistry, however Robin and Patrick are one of the few that have sexual, romantic chemistry. They can be on the opposite sides of a room, but the connection between the two is apparent. And while Kimberly alluded to Patrick and Robin possibly burning brightly and then out, I don't believe that will be the case. Ever.

They're realistic and relatable
Crazily enough when you think about it, these two are the few characters on the show that seem to lead normal lives - they have conversations about their careers, couches, pregnancy, eating cheeseburgers, fries and beer at home on the couch, etc... and somehow they make it watchable and compelling.

They're a fun couple
While some of the repetitive arguing can get tedious, the playful bantering between Patrick and Robin is extremely fun to watch. No other couple on the show portrays a relationship where they seem to really enjoy being in each other's company. And when mixed into the canvas of the show, they are a stark contrast to General Hospital's dark storylines -they are the light, laughter, and heart of the show.

Their love for each other is believable
Beginning with the destruction of this couple on Night Shift and then on General Hospital, the writers have tested the limit of the viewers' buy-in that this couple will continue to love each other. Despite Guza's written undercurrent of Patrick and Robin's deep upset that their lives weren't going in the same direction (in order to justify actions), the writers almost made Patrick an unviable love interest for Robin. However, due to the strength of Kimberly and Jason's performances, they have successfully begun to sell to the viewer that Patrick and Robin are still deeply in love and they haven't 'jumped the shark' in believabilty (because of the whiplash in the accelerated rate the writers took and some issues left unsaid.)

Kimberly and Jason's portrayals
The trust between these two actors is evident and unique, in that they allow the other to constantly invade personal space and shine in the right areas of the dialogue. Kimberly's performances are understated and honest - she has the ability like no other actress on the show to make you grab for the tissues when she portrays Robin's hurt or loneliness. Jason has turned a bland playboy stereotype, into a complex character that teeters between arrogance and sensitivity, self-involved and self-sacrificing, a definite flight risk and Robin's constant. While Ethan Erickson shouldn't be knocked for stepping in when it was needed, Kimberly and Jason shouldn't ever worry that they can be replaced in the viewers' hearts. They are truly irreplaceable portraying Robin and Patrick.
