Letters to Muffin (Part 9)

We've come to the close of April's 'Letter to Muffin' fanfic series, catch up on all of the letters below, if you haven't already.  It's been nearly a year since the series started, and has a fitting ending with Patrick's letter to Emma.

Part 9:

Emma Grace Scorpio-Drake,

That is a big name for such a small creature. But it’s a strong name…and if you are anything like your mother you will be a strong little girl. I probably should tell you who I am…I’m your father. I’m the voice that you’ve been hearing reading stories to you at night when you won’t settle down and let mommy sleep. You’ve been moving around a lot lately. It’s funny cause if I lay real close to mommy, with my stomach pressed against hers its like you’re kicking my stomach too. It’s a strange feeling to know that your mother and I created you. And I have to admit I’m a bit jealous that your mother has gotten to “bond” with you for the last nine months, but I know I will get the chance to bond with you once you are here. I can’t wait to meet you. I very excited that you are going to be here in a few weeks. I think the only person more excited than me is your mother. She’s waited a long time for you Emma. And I waited a long time for your mother.

I should probably tell you a little bit more about myself…something’s I think you should know from me, before you hear them from other people. You see for a long time I closed myself off from the possibility of love. I refused to believe that it was worth the time and effort that one needed to put forth to achieve it. I knew from a young age that true love existed, your grandparents, my parents, taught me about true love. The problem was that I watched it destroy my father after my mother died, and it was then that I told myself that there wasn’t anything in the world that would make me open myself up for the kind of hurt that followed that. You see I was 18 when your grandmother died and before that fateful day I was 100% sure that I wanted the kind of love that my parent had. But after that day…..I didn’t want to take the risk.

So I dated a lot, but refused to put my heart into it. I wasn’t looking for anything long term. And I was happy….at least my version of happy. Then one day…I met the woman that would change my life forever. Your mother stormed her way into my OR and my heart. I found myself falling in love with her before I even knew it and it scared me. So I pushed her away, told myself that I didn’t feel for her what I did….but your Grandpa Noah knew that we were both lying to ourselves and that our relationship was far from over, so he meddled and got us back together.

It’s what set us on the road to admitting that we love each other. But something else happened before we actually said to the words to each other. You see one day I was operating on a very sick woman, because that is what I do, I’m a brain surgeon, and you see this woman was sick. She had AIDS, which is something your mother and I will explain to you when your older, because it does effect our lives. Anyways, when I was working on this woman there was an accident and I cut myself with an infected scalpel. Because of this I had to be tested to see if I had HIV. This hit very close to home for your mother because her first love died from AIDS and she’s HIV positive, so she was scared that I would have it too and she would lose me. The thing is that the more I fell in love with your mother, the more I was scared to lose her…to the HIV or her just walking away because of my fear of committing to her.
But it was that same day that I knew for sure that I was head over heels in love with your mother. I can remember the exact moment too. She sat down behind me, wrapped her arms around my arm and laid her head on my shoulder. That was the moment that I knew that I couldn’t live without your mother. A few months later I finally told her that I loved her. It was during one of our many fights, and she didn’t believe me, but I did something afterwards that proved it. I set up candles outside her window, brought flowers and made her realize that I loved her.

I have to admit that it wasn’t as smooth sailing from then on out like I thought it would be. We fought about apartments, student nurses, and children. And because of those fights your mother and I broke up. It was the longest two months of my life. I missed your mother like crazy, and during that time I did something I wasn’t proud of, and your mother went on a quest to have a baby. Then your Aunt Georgie was taken from us and it brought your mother and I back together….and we created you. Our little miracle. And even after finding out about you, things weren’t smooth for your mother and I, but one day we both realized that we wanted the same thing…you and each other. And now your mother is going to be my wife.

I need you to know Emma that I love you, and want you. Please don’t ever doubt that…no matter what people say. Yes I said over and over again that I didn’t want to have children, that they weren’t in my plans….but once I felt you move inside your mother for the first time….I realized that you and your mother were everything I never knew I truly wanted. I think that I let my fear of loosing everyone I loved, that I let myself believe that it was better never to have it then to risk loosing it. But your mother has taught me that it’s better to take the chance and love, then go through life without it.

So if anyone ever tells you, Emma, that I didn’t want you….I do. I want you with us more than I have ever wanted anything in my life. You are my baby girl….the child that I created out of love with the woman I am going to spend forever with. I hope that you never ever feel unloved or unwanted…because you are loved and wanted my baby.

I love you so much Emma and I can’t wait to meet you, to hold you and tell you face to face that you are the most precious gift that your mother could ever give me.

I will cherish you and your mother all the days of my life.

I love you Emma.

Love always and forever,

Your daddy.

“What are you doing?” Patrick asked as he walked into the nursery hearing Robin reading aloud over the baby monitor that was placed by the bed.

“Reading to your daughter.” Robin said as she closed the journal and placed it on the table beside the rocking chair.

“Did she wake up?” Patrick asked as he looked at the baby bundled in her mothers arms. “I didn’t even hear her cry.”

“She didn’t cry.” Robin said as she stood up and placed the sleeping baby back into her crib. “I couldn’t sleep so I came to check on her and she woke up while I was in here.”

“So you decided to read to her?” He asked as he touched her soft head.

“Well I hadn’t read your letter and so I thought we could read it together.” She told him as she looked up at him.

“And what did you think?” He asked as he reached for her hand.

“That I am the luckiest woman alive.” She told him looking up at him. “I love you so much.” She said. “You have given me everything I ever wanted, and never thought I’d have. When I first met you I never thought we’d end up here, but you brought me back to life, opened my heart again and crawled inside never to leave. You are my love and my life.” She told him.

“And you are the woman that made me whole.” He told her as he kissed her hand. “You made me realize what I was missing by hiding from love, and I will forever be grateful that Jason’s brain injury brought you to me. Because I don’t think I’d have what I have now if it hadn’t been for you. You are my soul mate…the one I was meant to be with and our little girl is greatest addition to our family that anyone could have asked for.” He told her. “I would be lost without both of you.”

“You’ll never be without us.” She told him. “You are stuck with us forever.”

“I like forever.” He told her pulling her into his arms. “It’s a good solid foundation for our future.”

“I love you Patrick Drake.” She told him looking up at him.

“I love you more soon to be Mrs. Patrick Drake.” He said with a smile before dipping his head down and claiming her lips with his.

The End.

Letters to Muffin (Part 8)

Part 8:

Patrick walked into the room and saw Robin sitting on the couch with headphones positioned on her stomach. He smiled as he watched her rubbing her belly as the music flowed through the headphones. He’d just gotten home from work and it always seemed surreal to see her there waiting for him. She wasn’t quite on maternity leave yet, but she was working less hours now so he really only saw her a few times at the hospital. It was weird for her not to be there, but he was dealing with it, because he knew that he got to have her undivided attention when he got home, and he knew that once Emma got there, her attention would be divided between him and the baby. He was ok with that because he knew his attention would be just as divided, but that just made every moment they had together before the baby even more special.

Smiling he sat down at the opposite end of the couch from her, with their baby’s journal in his hand and watched as Robin continued to rub her belly in time with the music.

“Hey baby.” Robin said when she finally opened her eyes and saw her fiancĂ© sitting across from her.

“Hi.” He said with a smile. “What’s Emma listening to?”

“Eddie Maine.” Robin told him.

“Eddie Maine?” Patrick said. “Who is that?”

“Ned Ashton’s alter ego.” Robin told him as she turned off her iPod and pulled the headphones off her stomach. “Ned decided he wanted to be a singer years back. He was good. It was how he met his ex-wife Lois.” She told him. “You should have seen him Patrick. Eddie Maine was absolutely nothing like the stuffed shirt Ned Ashton. It was like he was an entirely different person, but a happy person.” She said with a smile. “I miss those days.”

“What do you miss most about them?” He asked her as he moved to sit closer to her and placed his hand on her stomach.

“Everyone that I loved was here.” She said. “Brenda still lived here, Stone was alive, Jason was still a Quartermaine and Sonny was a calmer, gentler man.” She said. “But most of all Georgie was here. I’d give anything to go back to when Georgie was here.” She said with tears in her eyes. “I wish she could see me like this.” She told him. “She always said all she wanted for me and Maxie was for us to be happy in love and able to have a family of our own…and I’m getting that and she’s not here to see it.” She said. “It sucks.”

“I know baby.” Patrick said shifting so that he could wrap his arms around her. “I know.”

Patrick held Robin tightly as she cried about the loss of her cousin. While the night of her funeral led to the conception of Emma, and their reconciliation, he would give anything for Robin to have her cousin back. While he had everything he never knew he wanted, he was going to marry Robin soon and spend the rest of his life with her, and he was going to be the father he wanted to be deep down, he would trade it all for Georgie to be alive, and for Robin to be happy. But since he couldn’t change that, he could just hold her and let her cry over her sadness at Georgie missing out on all of this.

“I’m sorry.” Robin said later as she wiped her eyes.

“Don’t ever apologize for being sad over the fact that we lost Georgie.” Patrick told her. “She was an amazing girl and she loved you and Maxie very much. I figured that out quickly the day I asked her to help me trick you.” He said. “Not my finest moment I admit. But she wanted you to be happy and new that you’d be happy living with me.” He told her. “She’d be happy for you right now. Happy that you were living the life you always dreamed about. And I am truly honored to be the man you chose to spend the rest of your life with. I’m honored that I get to be the father of your baby, and that I get to come home to you and Emma everyday for the rest of my life.” He said. “And I thank Georgie.” He said. “Because while it was sad that the reason you came to me that night was to escape your grief for a while….she had a hand in us getting back together, and having this miracle about to join us. But I would honestly give it all back if I could bring her back to you Robin.” He said with tears in his eyes. “I would do anything to make you happy.”

“I know and that is why I love you.” She told him wiping his tears before leaning in to give him a soft sweet kiss.

“I love you so much Robin. You and Emma are my life.” He said before swooping in for another kiss.

--
“You hungry?” He asked a few moments later as they sat holding each other in the living room. The journal all but forgotten on the coffee table.

“Starving.” She said. “Emma and I would love a bacon, cheese and pineapple pizza.”

“One semi weird pizza coming up for my girls.” He said with a smile as he stood up from the couch. “Oh and by the way I finished my letter for Emma.” He said picking up the journal and handing it to her. “But I added something that I think you need to read first.” He told her flipping the book open.

“What is it?” She asked him. “Please tell me you didn’t write any dirty notes in our daughter’s journal.”

“No I didn’t gutter mind girl.” He said with a laugh. “It’s something Maxie brought to me at the hospital today.” He said. “I want you to read it and while you do that I am going to get you and Emma your pizza and cheeseburger for me from Kelly’s.” He said giving her a kiss on her forehead. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” She said as she watched him walk to the door. Taking a deep breathe as she reopened the book on her lap to the page Patrick marked.

Dear baby,

Hi. Wow this is really weird. Writing to a person you haven’t met yet. You see in my English Composition class our assignment was to do just that. Write a letter to someone you haven’t met yet. So I decided to choose you. The baby that I know that my cousin Robin is going to have one day. And if you are reading this, then I know that her wish to be a mother came true. You see Robin is the most exemplary person that I know. She’s strong willed, determined, passionate, loving, but more important she’s a strong independent woman who has handled having HIV with a grace and dignity that make her the woman she has become. She’s the type of woman I want to be when I grow up.

I look up to Robin. She’s my role model. You see my mother isn’t really around, so the motherly figure that I’ve had in my life for so long has been her. She’s shown me the type of woman that I hope to be one day. She’s the inspiration that I use when I feel like school becomes too much, or that the world isn’t fair because my mother decided that being with her mother was more important than being with me and my sister. I look at Robin and know that for a long time she didn’t even know her mother was alive. I watched the way she grew up with Mac as her only parent and she survived. She’s definatly a fighter and if I could just have 1/10 of the strength that she has, then I know that I will be ok. That I can survive anything.

I know I’m talking a lot about your mother and not a lot about myself, but you see there really isn’t much to say about myself. I’m a bookworm and a do gooder as my sister would call me. But that is ok, because it’s just who I am. I work at a cafĂ© when I’m not in school, and I’ve really only had one serious boyfriend….but he’s the love of my life. He’s the man I know that I am destined to spend the rest of my life with. And I know that he knows it too. He loves me, and I feel blessed every day that I have his love. You see I learned a lot about love by watching Robin with men she’s loved. I watched her as she loved and lost Stone. I watched as she fell in love with Jason Morgan, and boy was that a disaster. I watched as she let that love force her to move to Paris and away from us.

But the greatest love that I have seen is the love she has for Patrick. I honesty and truly believe that he is her soul mate. He’s the man she is destined to spend forever with. Sure they fight a lot and still have yet to admit their true feelings to each other, but the love is there. I can see it. And they both know it. They are just too afraid to admit it. Which I can understand on both parts….he’s never been in a relationship……she’s been left heartbroken twice. They are cautious I understand that. I just hope for their sakes that they admit it soon. I would truly hate to see them let this chance at true love pass them by.
Especially after everything they have been through.

I want the same thing for my sister Maxie. I want her to find love and have it last. She lost her true love recently…….his name was Jessie. He died after being shot in the park, all because Port Charles is over run with the mob. How any of the police commissioners let this happen is beyond me. And she grieved a lot and made some mistakes because of her grief, but she’s going to get better. She’s going to find that one person she
is meant to spend her life with, and when she does….she’ll change. She’ll become the big sister that I know is hiding inside her. The one that takes the chance and puts herself out there. The one that strives to be good, and not cause trouble, just because she can.

Maybe having you around in the family will help that. You never know. Babies have a way of bring a family together.

I can’t wait to meet you. I can’t wait to see the look of pure happiness on Robin’s face when you enter the world. You will be her miracle baby. The baby that she didn’t think she could have that day so many years ago when she was told she was HIV positive. But deep down I’ve always known that she would become a mother. Because she was destined to be. She has too much love inside her not to be able to share it with a child.

I’m going to spoil you rotten, not like Maxie will. She’s the fashionable one, me I’m the bookish one. I’m the one that is going to take you to the library, the one that will read to you, help you learn to read, when your mom is at work, cause let’s face it she’s worked hard to be a doctor and as much as she’ll loving being your mom, she’ll want to work a little too….so I’ll be your babysitter. The best babysitter you’ve ever had. Gosh there is so much I want to show you, to tell and teach you. Just the thought of Robin having you makes me smile.

I know it’s silly for me to say all this, but I can’t help it. You are exactly what Robin needs to realize that she’s just as normal as me or Maxie. That she’s not defined by her HIV, that she is the amazing woman that we all know she is. You are the healing that Robin needs.

I love you already baby and I hope that we get to meet you soon.

Love always and forever,

Your Cousin/Aunt Georgina.

P.S. You can just call me Georgie.

Robin sat tracing her finger over Georgie’s name as she let the tears fall down her cheeks. She’d wished that there was some way to have Georgie a part of this journal for her baby, beside the picture that Maxie had slipped in, but she never in a million years dreamt that as an assignment she would have written her baby a letter. A letter that Robin would treasure forever and she knew that after hearing about Georgie from Mac, Maxie and herself, Emma would treasure this letter as well.

“She wrote one for Maxie too.” Patrick said as he quietly slipped onto the sofa beside her. He’d come home only a few moments ago and after putting the food down, had silently watched his fiancĂ© read the letter her cousin had written a few years ago. “Maxie found them in a drawer in Georgie’s desk. She couldn’t bring herself to read them, or even give you yours, so she put them in her memory box, and to day she was feeling sad and looked through the box and found them again. She thought that Emma should have the letter that Georgie wrote for her, so she brought it too me at the hospital today, and I slipped it into the page before mine.” He said. “It belongs there.” He told her.

“Thank you.” Robin said through her tears. “Thank you for putting it in there for our baby.” She told him. “Thank you for finding a way to bring Georgie to our little girl.” She said as she felt more tears spill down her cheeks.

“Trust me Robin,” He told her as he pulled the book out of her hands. “There was no way that our baby would ever not know about Georgie. She is too much a part of this family for that to happen.” He said kissing the top of her head. “But you really need to thank Maxie for bringing us the letter.”

“I will.” She told him “I will.” She said again as she let him pull her into his arms.

TBC……….Honestly up next Patrick.

Letters to Muffin (Part 7)

Part 7:

Robert made himself comfortable at the desk in Robin and Patrick’s study. He figured it would be a relatively safe place to sit down and contemplate what he wanted to say to his granddaughter. He was still in shock that he was going to be a grandfather. He’d wanted this for Robin for so long, but was afraid when he’d learned that she had HIV that she wouldn’t get this. She wouldn’t get the happy ending that every parent wants their child to have…..but as always his Robin was a fighter. And she’d proved him wrong. She had everything she wanted. She had a baby on the way, a fiancĂ© that loved her, and the biggest support system of anyone he’d ever met. He knew that no matter what the future held his child, and his grandchild would be cared for. Even if he couldn’t be there to take care of them.

Sighing he picked up the pen and opened the book to the next blank page.

My littlest luv,

Hello little Emma Grace, I’m your grandpa Robert. I’m honored that your mother and father asked me to be a part of this book they are making for you. Honestly I’m glad that I am here and able to do this. You see very recently I was diagnosed with colon cancer, and I had to go away for treatment, but my cancer is in remission so I can be back here with my family while we wait for your arrival and the day your parents get married. For a while there I wasn’t sure I’d be here, but I am and I have to tell you that one of the things that convinced me to fight was you. You see granddaughter I knew that I couldn’t go yet….I wasn’t done here. I hadn’t staid alive this long only to end up missing out on the greatest gift that God was giving my family……you.

You are the one thing that I never thought that my daughter would get to have. But now you are almost here, and she’s about to get married to the man that she loves….and that my darling granddaughter is the only thing that I’ve ever wanted for your mother. Happiness. She deserves it. God knows that your grandmother and I put her through enough…it is about time that she gets what she wants…she gets to be happy and in love with a family of her own.

Ever since I learned about this little book your parents were putting together form your grandmother, I have been trying to figure out what to talk to you about. I could talk about what a strong, courageous woman I think your mother is, but I’m sure that every other person has already done that. So I finally decided to tell you about something that is very special to me…..I’m going to tell you how I met your mother, and a few things that happened later.

You see I’ve loved your grandmother for so long I can’t remember a time I didn’t. She was/is my soul mate. The woman I am meant to spend my life with. Anyways, because of our jobs things between us didn’t work out….but the one thing that did was Robin. She was our love child, only I didn’t know about her for the first seven years of her life. She lived with Philomena, her grandmother, and at the time she didn’t even know that Anna was her mother, she thought she was just her friend Luv. Well one day I came home to find this adorable little girl standing in my living room. To say I was shocked would be an understatement….ask your father to explain that big word to you…..but there she was wearing an adorable blue dress and holding her doll Cindy.

I don’t think that I’ve ever seen such a beautiful creature before. Well besides your grandmother, you would have thought that I would have realized right away who she was, but I didn’t. So I asked her who she was, and she turned to me and said that she was Robin. I swear I fell in love with her that very moment. Of course I’d really never been around children at that point so I didn’t know what to do with her. It was a bit awkward between us at first, me not being used to children, and her not knowing me. Eventually we seemed to warm up to each other and I decided to feed her. I remember making her a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and sat with her while she ate it.

Shortly after your grandmother showed up. I watched as your mother and grandmother interacted and thought it was odd that Robin called her Luv instead of Anna or even mom at that point. I think I was slowly putting it together that Anna was Robin’s mother, but I didn’t say anything. You see I wanted to let your grandmother tell me what she knew about Robin. Later after your mother went to bed your grandmother admitted that Robin was her daughter. It was due to Anna’s job that she had kept Robin from knowing she was her mother. It was also shortly after that I found out that I was Robin’s father.
By this time your grandmother and I had been apart for a while, seven years to be exact. I had no idea that your grandmother had even been pregnant. I was shocked when I found out Robin was my daughter….it didn’t seem to fit into my lifestyle for many reason, the biggest being the dangerous job that I had, like your grandmother. But there was this big part of me that was so excited to know that I had fathered a child with the woman I was in love with. You see even at that time I loved your grandmother.

One day, when Robin was still young, your grandmother and I sat her down and told her that we were her parents. We told her that she had been created out of love, and that she was our love child. We told her she was very lucky to have been born out of the love that Anna and I had for each other, even if we couldn’t be together. I remember on that same day that Robin asked us to promise to love her forever, and it was easy to say that we would. In fact every time I look at your mother I still remember that little girl standing in the middle of my living room. The innocent way she smiled at me and told me her name.

Things between your mother and I haven’t always been good. You see when she was thirteen years old your grandmother and I were involved in a boat explosion. Your grandmother got amnesia and later reconciled with your mother, but to keep your mother safe, I let her believe that I was still dead. It was wrong of me, I know that, but I just wanted to protect your mother, and luckily through some work on both our parts she forgave me.

But I will tell you my little luv that I did what I thought was best. I will always stand by that belief……and I did do one thing right with your mother, I gave her the best father anyone could have….Mac. He took great care of your mother, as if she was his own kid, and I’ll always be grateful to my baby brother for the way he raised your mother. He taught her to be independent, self sufficient, and to excel at all he did. She’s grown into a mini version of her mother, and I know that you will be a mini version of your mother; it’s the Devane blood in both of you. It will also mean that you will be a control freak and stubborn….but the one thing I definitely know is that you will be a smart little girl, it will be hard not to be with two doctors for parents.

But whatever you grow up to become, a cop like Mac, into fashion like Maxie, have a lust for learning like Georgie, a super spy like your grandmother and I, or a doctor like your parents, I know that you will make the most of it. That is what this family will teach you. Your mother and I will teach you that life is a gift and not to take a moment of it for granted, and your father will teach you how to learn to open your heart. He fought against it from what I’m told, but with the way he loves your mother, the way I see that he loves your mother, that is one gift I hope that you receive from him.

There is one more thing that I need to tell you Emma Grace before I end this letter, and it’s important so pay attention.

You are the greatest gift that this family has gotten in a long time. You are the one thing that your mother wanted and was afraid to have. You are her miracle. The one thing that proves to her that no matter HIV or not, she can have just as normal of a life as anyone else. You will be the reminder that your mother succeeded in living a full, happy life. I know that every time she looks at you she will remember that she got to have the life she thought died with her first love, and shattered with the end of her second.

You are the greatest gift that your father could ever have given your mother, besides his love. You are the culmination of their love, the creation that their endless bond made.

Learn from your parents Emma Grace, learn how to survive, how to get past the prejudices, the pain and learn what real and everlasting love is. Because my sweet baby the love your parents have is a love that only comes around once in a lifetime and last forever. It’s what fairy tales are based on and my greatest wish for you is that one day you will have a love like theirs.

That my little luv is the only thing I can wish for you. A life full of love and happiness.

I love you,

Grandpa Robert

Closing the book Robert wiped the lone tear that fell down his cheek and smiled. As he was writing the letter he realized how truly blessed he was to have beaten cancer, to be here to see his grandchild born, to be there when his daughter gets married….to be with his one true love again. But most of all to be surrounded by the love that flowed through the Scorpio/Drake family. That he knew was the greatest gift he’d been given. The chance to be there for the important things that he’d missed as Robin grew up, he was going to see the milestones she set as an adult. Sighing contentedly he stood up with the book in his hand and made his way into the living room to see his soon to be son-in-law sitting on the couch watching tv.

“Here.” Robert said handing him the book.

“Thanks.” Patrick said taking it and placing it on the couch next to him. “Thank you for doing this for us.”

“There is absolutely no thanks needed.” Robert told him. “It is an honor that I get to be here for this, that I get to be apart of all of this. There was a long time there, even before the cancer, that I wasn’t sure I would get to be.”

“Robin loves you Robert.” Patrick said. “She wouldn’t have kept you away from your granddaughter.”

“I like to think you are right, but I’m more thankful I’ll never have to wonder about that.” He said settling himself in a chair next to the couch.

“Me too.” Patrick said with a smile.

“So who’s next on Robin’s list?” Robert asked.

“Me.” Patrick said. “I’m the last one to write in the book. Robin started it and I’m finishing it.”

“Good, that is the way it should be.” Robert said as he turned his attention back to the television.

“Yeah.” Patrick agreed before letting himself get lost in the hockey game he was watching.

Letters to Muffin (Part 6)

Part 6:

Robin opened the package and smiled when she saw it was the journal that she’d sent to Brenda. She noticed that the once pristine edge of the book was now worn in from the number of people that had opened and closed the journal as they had added their notes to Emma Grace. She placed the journal on the coffee table and opened the letter that was addressed to her.

Ciao Bello Amico,

Greetings from Rome. I hope that this letter finds you well. And yes I realize that I just spoke with you recently, but things change so fast. I mean just a few short months ago you were a single woman pondering having a baby on your own, and now you are a happily engaged woman about to have a baby with the man that you love. A man that loves you beyond words. I am so happy for you Robin. You finally have everything I always knew that you deserved. You have the family you always wanted. For a long time there I wasn’t sure that you would get it, and then you met Patrick, and through everything you told me about him when you first met him, I knew he was the one for you. I realize that both of you fought it, but he was the one. The one that would change your life and give you everything that you deserved.

And for that I will forever be eternally grateful to him. So be happy my Robin. Enjoy your life, your love and your family. It’s all we have ever wanted for you, and now that you have it, hold onto it with both hand and never let it go.

Thank you for asking me to be a part of this, since I can’t be there with you. I am honored to be able to write a message to your baby, your Emma Grace. To be able to tell her what I know of you, to tell her the Robin that I have gotten the great and wonderful opportunity to know and love for the past 13 years of my life. You are the greatest gift that has ever been given to me, and I cherish you each and everyday.

I love you my friend, my sister.

Love Always and Forever,

Brenda.

P.S. Yes you can read the letter. Smooches.

Robin put the letter down and wiped her eyes and she opened the journal to the page Brenda had marked and started reading the letter.

My Beautiful Emma Grace,

Welcome to the world my little wonder. You were a long time in coming. I am your mysterious Aunt Brenda. I say mysterious because it will be a while before you get to meet me. You see I live in Rome. That is in Italy. I’ve lived here for a long time, and I don’t come to Port Charles very often. There is some bad history for me there. But that is a story for another time, maybe when you are a bit older. I’m very sad that I won’t get to be there when you are born. I’ve waited a long time for your mother to get to have you. You see I’ve known your mother for thirteen years, and throughout that time she’s encountered more trials and tribulations than anyone person should ever have to.

When she was seventeen years old I watched her handle losing her first love, Stone Cates, to an incurable disease, a disease that even now flows through her veins. I watched her pick herself up and carry on. It wasn’t easy for her, it shouldn’t have been. No one at that age should have to bury the person they are in love with. I wasn’t around for the end of her next relationship. I’d gone through some of my own personal stuff and disappeared from everyone’s life at the time, but I heard about it, and I can tell you that it wasn’t pretty, but like the courageous person that your mother is she once again put the pieces of her heart back together again and carried on with her life.

Some say she ran away, but she didn’t. For her own self preservation she moved to Paris. And while there we became friends again. You see I was already living in Rome at that time. But your mother was guarded. She kept her heart very close to herself. She focused on becoming the best doctor she could be, and let love become something she didn’t strive to obtain. I felt bad for her. I know how much she wanted to find the one. That person that she was meant to spend the rest of her life with. The person that she was destined to have the future she deserved with.

And as fate would have it, she came back to Port Charles and found it. She found your father. Sure she fought it tooth and nail, but she was meant to be with your father…and he was meant to be with her. And you my darling baby girl were meant to be with them. You are a very lucky little girl. You have so many people that love you already and you aren’t even here yet.

I know that for all the bravery that your mother has, she was scared to have you. See as much as you were planned, she is still scared to death that she will infect you with the disease that she carries, but I want to tell you a secret Emma Grace. If you are infected, you will have absolutely no better teacher than your mother. She will teach you how to live with this disease with grace and humility. She will teach you how to live each day, each moment to the fullest and to never take anything for granted. Both her and your father will teach you about pure unconditional love, and what it means to love completely, with your whole heart and soul. Because your parents love like that. Your mother always has, and even though I think that the love she has with your father is by far the greatest love she’s ever experienced, I know that she loved both Jason and Stone with all of herself. And because of that my sweet baby, you will always know what it means to be able to love open and honestly.

Your mother has taught me so much over the past thirteen years that I have known her. She’s taught me how to be strong. How to believe in myself, how to believe in a future, and how to believe that one day I will have the kind of love that she has finally found for herself. And that is only one of the many, many reasons why I love your mother. Your mother is the best friend I could have ever asked for.

I know I’ve talked a lot about your mother and not a lot about your father, the truth is that I only know about your father through your mother. I haven’t met him, but I know that he loves your mother breathlessly. She is his whole world, and you will be too. You and your mother are the best things that have ever happened to him, and I know that he will always be there for you, even if your mother can’t be. So trust in him Emma. Even if he messes up a little at first, from what I hear most first time fathers do.

But most of all what I want for you is to be happy my beautiful baby girl. Live a happy and full life, love well, laugh often, and grow in the image of your mother. She is the strongest, bravest, most compassionate person I know. And I thank God every day that I was blessed to get to be one of the lucky people to have her in my life.

Treasure your family Emma; they are the true foundation of love.

Love always,

Your Aunt Brenda.

Robin closed the book and smiled as she once again wiped away her tears.

“You ok sweetheart?”

“I’m fine daddy.” Robin said as her father sat down next to her. “I just read Brenda’s letter to Emma. I miss her.”

“I know.” He said hugging his daughter close to him. “Maybe once Emma is here we can convince her to come for a visit.”

“I’d like that.” She said. “I’d like that a lot.”

“I know.” He said kissing her head. “So that is the journal your mother told me about.” He said pointing to the book in her lap.

“Yep.” She said handing it to him. “You’re next.” She said. “If you feel up to it.”

“Absolutely.” He told her taking the journal. “Why don’t I go work on this and you take a nap before Patty gets home and we head over to Mac’s for dinner.”

“Ok.” She said with a smile. “Daddy?”

“Yes luv?”

“I love you.”

“I love you more.” He said with a wink before walking towards the dining room with the journal in his hand.

Letters to Muffin (Part 5)

Part 5:

Noah sat staring at the page that was earmarked for him. The page where he was supposed to impart some wisdom to his granddaughter. The problem was words were not his strong suit, they were Mattie’s. They always had been. The last letter he had written had been his resignation from the hospital in Georgia he’d been working in. He’d tried writing letters to his son during their time apart, but could never get the right words to come out, so he’d just let the miles grow between them. They would still be at odds with each other, or he would be dead if this fiery brunette hadn’t forced her way into their lives and found a way to make them reconcile. He would always be thankful to Robin for so many things, the most important being the chance to be a true grandfather to the child she was having with his son.

Taking a deep breath he picked up his pen and adjusted the journal on the desk before him.

My beloved granddaughter,

Ya know I never thought I’d get to say the word granddaughter. I was pretty sure that either my son wouldn’t let me in his child’s life, or he wouldn’t have a child. But life is full of surprises and not only am I getting to be in my son’s life, I get to be in yours as well. You see for a long time your father and I didn’t get along. There was way to much pain between us. You see your grandmother Mattie passed away while I was operating on her, and I couldn’t face your father. So I walked out of the hospital and out of his life. Sure we saw each other, but it was as if we were strangers, not father and son. I let Mattie down and most of all I let your father down. But your mother changed that. Your mother brought us back together, and I will forever be grateful to her for that.

Your mother is a force to be reckoned with. She was determined to get your father and I talking and well she succeeded. Finally after all these years I have my son back. And now I’m getting a granddaughter. To tell you the truth I’m a bit nervous about that. I know nothing about little girls. You see your father is an only child, and well he’s a boy. A boy I know I can play race cars with, but girls, girls want to have tea parties and play with dolls….and as much as I know nothing about them….I promise you here and now this grandfather will be at every tea party you have. I’ll sit in those little chairs, and drink imaginary tea out of the cutest tea seat any little girl could ask for. Because I’m going to spoil you rotten. It’s what grandfathers do; just don’t tell your mother and father.

I have to admit muffin, still think that is a ridiculous name to call you that I was seriously at a loss for words after your mother asked me to write this letter. I wasn’t sure what to say. I’ve never been good with words, just ask your father. But this is important to your mother, and something that you will have with you for the rest of your life, so I am doing this. It might not be the best letter in the book, but it’s written in love. And love my granddaughter is something you will never ever lack. There are so many people that love you already. I’m sure that there are letters in here that already talk about how big your extended family is. You see your mother is beloved in this town and because of that you will be too, and trust me when I tell you that it’s not a bad thing.

As I was sitting here thinking of what to say to you I realized that I should tell you about your grandma Mattie. It really sucks that you will never get to meet her, but I’m sure you will be like her, especially since your mother is. It’s weird, but when I look at your mother, I see so much of my Mattie in her, and I wonder if that is what drew your father to her. Whatever it was that drew him in, I’m just glad he embraced it and didn’t run away. Your mother and father were destined to be together, you can see it in the way they love each other. It is the kind of love I had with your grandmother. The kind of love that lasts for all time.

Your grandmother was the love of my life. She was brave, funny, and beautiful, full of life, and never took any of mine or your fathers crap. She called us on our behavior at every turn. She taught me how to love, just as your mother taught your father. Mattie was the best thing to ever happen to me, she made me a better person. I realize that now, after everything that I have been through after she died, I can honestly say that I let her down. I wasn’t the better person; I wallowed in my pain and pushed your father away. And trust me I thank God everyday that he forgave me and let me into his life. Mattie would be happy that we are talking and that I will get to tell you stories of your grandmother. In fact I know that Mattie would be overjoyed to be having a granddaughter. It’s what she wanted for your father. She wanted him to find the woman he was meant to be with, the woman he couldn’t live without and make a future with her, and your father has done that. He found your mother and they are having you and starting their future together.

I hope if nothing else that what you learn from your parents, and even from me, is how important love is. Love is the foundation of life. It’s the best feeling in the world. And I hope that one day, when you are older, say around 30 when your father finally lets you start dating, that you find your one true love. That you get to experience the love your parents have, the love I had with Mattie. Because Muffin, if you can experience that, then I know that you will be happy. Always follow your dreams muffin, even if that means that you aren’t a doctor like your parents……find what makes you happy and go for it. Achieve what you want out of life….but always make time to find your true love, because your life will be so much better for it.

I wanted to include something in this letter, something of your grandmother. So when I was looking for a picture of your father in an old box of photos that I had put in storage years ago, I came across a copy of one of your grandmother’s favorite poems. So I thought that I would include that in my letter, partially because it’s from your grandmother and partially because it was inside a card I gave her on our 10th wedding anniversary.

I carry your heart with me

I carry your heart with me(I carry it in
my heart)I am never without it(anywhere
I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
I fear no fate(for you are my fate, my sweet)I want
no world(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart(I carry it in my heart)
By E.E. Cummings

I had found this poem in a book of poetry that your grandmother was always reading. The page that this was on was marked with the corner folded down, so I knew it was one of her favorites. So I copied it into a card for her, and this became a tradition. Every year around our anniversary she would mark another poem in this book and it would become the wording for her anniversary card from me. It was one of the many traditions that your grandmother and I started, and one of the many many things that I loved about her.

I promise that once you are a little older I will tell you all about your grandmother, I have the family picture albums to show you too. I love you granddaughter, and I can’t wait to meet you.

Love always and forever,

Grandpa Noah.

Noah shut the journal and placed his pen beside it. He knew if he went back and read it that he would want to change it, and he’d always told Patrick to go with his first instinct, so he was going to go with the fact that he felt that his letter, short as it was, was good enough. The rest of what he needed to say he’d tell her after she was born. Pushing himself back from his desk he started to walk to the kitchen when there was a knock on his door. Opening it he smiled when he saw his son on the other side.

“Hey.” Patrick said smiling as he walked into his father’s apartment.

“Hi.” Noah said. “If you are here for the journal your timing is great. I just finished my letter.”

“I came for that, but also to give you this.” He said handing him a piece of paper.

“Wow.” Noah said staring at the sonogram photo that Patrick had handed him. “She’s getting big.”

“Well she is due any day now.” Patrick smirked. “And trust me Robin is more than ready.”

“I bet.” Noah said as they sat down on the couch. “By eight and half months your mother was more than ready for you to be born. You were a big baby and you made your mother very uncomfortable for the last few weeks. I never saw a woman cheer about her water breaking before. I mean your mother was so excited she forgot to be scared.”

“She wasn’t scared at all about giving birth?” Patrick asked him.

“Not at frist.” Noah said. “But once she got to the hospital and the contractions started getting worse, then all bets were off.” He said with a laugh. “But it didn’t last long. The moment your mother saw you, she couldn’t stop smiling.”

“What about you?”

“I had never felt so much love and pride as I did the moment they handed you to your mother and I saw you lying in her arms. All peaceful and content.” He said. “You know what I’m talking about when they put your daughter in Robin’s arms for the first time. This feeling of calm protectiveness will suddenly appear.” He said. “But at the same time this unending love will swell up inside you. You will instantly fall in love with your child and fall even harder for Robin.” He told his son. “I swear to you I have never loved your mother more than I did the day you were born.”

“I can’t wait.” Patrick said. “I want to meet her. I want to see if she looks like Robin. God I hope she looks like Robin. Then I get two of her. Two perfect Robin’s to love.” He said with a smile.

“I am so proud of you Patrick.” Noah said. “And your mother would be too. You are them an she wanted you to be.”

“I wish she was here.” Patrick said. “I wish she was going to get to meet her granddaughter.”

“I do too.” Noah replied. “But I promise you that between the two of us, your daughter will know your mother.”

“I know.” He said standing up and gripping the journal in his hands. “I love you dad.”

“I love you too son.” Noah said as he hugged his son. “I love you too.”

Letters to Muffin (Part 4)

Anna sat down at the desk in the hotel she was occupying and opened the package that had been waiting for her.

Mom,

Wow you are a hard woman to track down. Luckily not that hard. I can’t believe you are visiting Aiden in Pine Valley. It’s cool though. I wish he would come to Port Charles so that we could get to know each other, but I know with his new wife and all he might not have time. Anyways, I hope that you have an awesome time with him and that this letter finds you well. I’m sure you are wondering about the package that came with this Patrick got me this journal to write down my pregnancy experiences instead of blogging, but I thought of something better to do with it. So what I’m doing is asking everyone important to me and Patrick to write a letter to the baby. It’s your turn. When you are done please send this back to me so that I can give it to the next person.

I love you and I wish you were here.

Love,

Robin.

Anna smiled as she found the page marked for her letter. She pulled out a pad of paper from the desk drawer and started to write. She wanted to make her letter perfect before she transferred it over. She had so much to say and she didn’t want to take the chance of messing it up. So she wrote out her thoughts and then would decide how to put them in order and put them in the book. She loved the fact that Robin was doing this for her daughter. She only wished that she had thought about doing something like this for Robin. This was definitely going to show the baby how much she was loved by everyone in her life.

She’d spent an hour writing, she know had six versions of the letter she wanted to write her granddaughter. Each letter was different and each had everything she wanted to say, but Anna still felt that she was missing something. So putting the letters aside, she took the book and went to the table on her balcony and put her pen to the paper in the book. She’d just tell the baby whatever came to her mind this time.

Granddaughter,

Hi. I’m your nana Anna. Your mother Robin is my daughter. I have to say that I was not very receptive when I first found out that your mother was going to have you, not because I didn’t want my daughter to have everything that she’s always wanted, but because I am entirely too young to be a grandmother. But over the last couple of months I have realized that I’m ready to be a grandmother. I’m ready to see my daughter get everything out of life that she wants. You see your mother is the most important thing in the world to me. She is my pride and joy. The best thing your grandpa Robert and I ever did. She has always been the thing in my life I’m the proudest of.

You see your grandpa Robert and I left your mom for a while. We didn’t mean to, at least I didn’t. But it happened. I have to tell you that I was so happy when your mother found me, you see I was in a boat explosion and lost my memory, but it came back the moment I saw your mother and since then I’ve done everything I can to stay in your mothers life. And I’m thankful for that. I’m also very thankful for your great uncle Mac stepping up and taking such good care of your mother. He did such an excellent job raising her. I probably haven’t told him that enough, but because of the way he raised her, she’s learned to endure most anything.

You see your mother had to go through some things in life that I wasn’t there to help her with. She fell in love for the first time, and I wasn’t there. Your mother lost her first love to a terrible disease, and I wasn’t there to comfort her. I wasn’t there for her second love either. And I wasn’t there when that turned south and your mother left town. But I was there for your mother while she lived in Paris, and luckily I’ve been there to watch your mother’s relationship with your father grow into what it is now.

Your mother is a very special woman. She has endured more than anyone her age should possible have to. You see your mom has so much heartbreak and sorrow in her life. She has dealt with everyone she loves leaving her at some point….and she’s scared that some day your father will do that to her as well. But I don’t think he will. The love I see between your mother and father is a rare one. It’s a love that is built to last. Your parents have the kind of love that most people only wish for. The forever kind of love. The kind that can endure anything and last.

And that is what you are going to see as you grow up. You are going to see two very special people loving each other and you the way that everyone wants to be loved. And you my little baby are very lucky. You are going to grow up in a house that is built on love. A house that has two parents that no only love you but love each other beyond reason. The kind of household that unfortunately your mother did not grow up in.

You see your grandpa Robert didn’t even know Robin was his until she was seven years old. Not only that she didn’t know I was her mother either. You see Robert and I worked for a company called the WSB, as international spies. We had to lie to protect your mother, but once we told her, we did everything we could to keep her safe. But you don’t have to worry baby. We don’t do such dangerous jobs anymore. Grandpa Robert does medical work of sorts now, and I’m happily on a desk job so that I can be with your mother when you are born. Well that and I want to retire soon so that I can be around you as you grow up. I missed so much with your mother that I don’t want to miss out on anything with you.

Plus I think your Aunt Maxie needs me. You see Aunt Maxie has lost a lot in her life as well. I’m sure that by now you know that your Aunt Georgie was taken from us a few months ago. It was senseless and way before her time and it left Maxie feeling quite abandoned, even if she won’t admit it. And since her and her mother don’t get along, I think it’s time for Aunt Anna to step in and be there for her. I know that she is feeling like everyone is going to be too busy for her. Your mother with you and your father, Uncle Mac with his job, her mother with her biological father, so I’m going to be there for Maxie. I’m going to make sure that she doesn’t get sick; you see she has a heart condition, and I’m going to make sure she doesn’t do anything to destroy the life she is trying so hard to build for herself.

You see I had another daughter, Leora, she didn’t make it. But I know that if she had, she’d be exactly what your Aunt Maxie needs, someone to fuss over….and since she’s not here, then Maxie is going to need you. And since my baby girl is gone, and your mother is all grown up, I need someone who needs me, and that is Maxie. So you see, both you and I are going to be filling a void, and that muffin is a very good thing. It’s a great thing to be needed…..but also to be loved. And you are loved, and I know that both Georgie and Leora are watching over all of us.

And in all of that I hope to be able to teach you, my granddaughter, what it is like to truly be there for your family. You are going to learn that the Scorpio’s, Devane’s and Drake’s are a family, and we will always be there for one another and for you. You are going to be our newest joy. You are going to fill the void that we are all still feeling from Georgie’s absence.

It’s something that is going to be with us for a long time. Especially your mom and Maxie. But my baby, you will help, because you are giving them a whole new person to love, you are giving us all that.

So thank you. Thank you for coming into my daughter’s life and making her dreams come true. She’s wanted you for so long, and wasn’t sure she’d ever get a chance to have you. But you are the miracle that your father gave her. You are the gift that Georgie left behind for your mother and father. The thing that brought them to the point that they realized they wanted a forever together.

I can’t wait to meet you my grandbaby. I can’t wait to see you in your mother’s arms. And I’m thankful every day that I get to be there for that. That I get to spoil you rotten as any grandmother should, and since your father’s mother isn’t with us anymore, I will spoil you rotten for both of us.

I love you muffin.

Love always and forever,

Nana Anna.

Anna re-read her letter and then closed the book. She placed it beside her on the table and stared out into the Pine Valley night sky. She smiled as she thought about her daughter. Robin was the most important person in her life, and she hoped that the mistakes she made with her wouldn’t be repeated with her grandbaby. She was ready to be around and be a full time grandmother, she just had to convince herself that she wouldn’t be bored.

She knew that she shouldn’t think like that, but after being a spy for so long, she wasn’t sure what else she could do. Of course she could always ask for a permanent desk job, or take a job with the PCPD. It was still some stuff to consider. First she had to ask Robin if she wanted her around full time, then she would go from there.

But right now all she was focusing on was making sure that her daughter and granddaughter came through the birth with no problems. The rest she would figure out later. Sighing she took the journal back into her room and found the return packaging that Robin had included and put it inside with a letter to Robin.

Robin,

I think that this was a great idea. Having those you love and that love you write a letter to the baby is something I know that your daughter will always treasure. It’s something I wish I had thought to do with you. Or at least kept a journal that you could read and see my thoughts while I was pregnant.

I want you to know that I love you Robin. You are and will always be the best thing I’ve ever done in my life. Never ever forget that you are my world.

I love you.

Mom.

She placed the letter in an envelope and then placed it inside the package and sealed the package. She took it to the front desk and asked for it to be mailed tomorrow. She then walked back into her room and smiled when she felt her cell phone vibrate and saw that it was her daughter calling her.

“Hi baby girl.” She said answer the phone.

“Hi mom.” Robin said. “Are you busy?”

“For you never.” Anna said walking onto the balcony to talk to her daughter.

Letters to Muffin (Part 3)

Mac sat down at the dining room table coffee cup in hand. It had been a long night at the police station. They had finally linked Jason and Sonny to the murder of a visiting mob boss and for once they had enough evidence to actually put them behind bars. And what should have been a great night for the town of Port Charles instead turned into Mac trying his damndest not to throttle Carly Corinthos Jacks…..or whatever the hell her name was this week. She demanded that both Sonny and Jason were innocent and wanted them released immediately. Needless to say in the end Carly ended up in her own nice cell when she accidentally let it slip that she had helped them. Breaking into a smile he sipped his coffee and noticed a book and an envelope sitting on the table. He put his cup down and opened the envelope and pulled out the letter.

Uncle Mac,

I have a feeling that you are reading this late at night after coming off another one of the long shifts you insist on working. It’s really bad for you; you really do need to take it easy. I’d like you to be around to help raise muffin and you can’t do that if you work yourself to death. Trust me I know this, I’m a doctor.

I bet you are wondering what the book and this note are about. Well you see Patrick gave me this journal to write down my thoughts on my pregnancy instead of doing the video blogs but I came up with a much better use for the journal. I want everyone who is important in my life, and will be important in my child’s life to write them a letter. And don’t worry no one but me and Patrick and our muffin will read these letters. Actually I want to read them to muffin after she/he is born. Kind of a way to get them used to the family.

So I’d really love it if you would honor us with writing a letter to your great-niece or nephew. After you are done you can drop it by my house or the hospital

So……put down the coffee I know you are drinking and go to bed, you can write your letter after you’ve had some sleep.

I love you Uncle Mac.

Love always and forever,

Robin.

Mac put the letter down and laughed at how well his niece knew him. But she was wrong about one thing; he wasn’t going to go to sleep. He was too wired to do that. Which was funny, he didn’t think men his aged still felt wired, but after the arrests he’d made tonight, he wasn’t quite ready to call it a night. So instead he took the journal and a pen and moved to his favorite spot, a chair on the patio outside and thought about what he wanted to tell the new edition to their family.

Dearest Baby,

Hi. I’m your great uncle Mac. I am your grandpa Robert’s brother and the man that had the distinct honor of raising your mother. You see your grandpa and grandma had to go away when your mom was 13 and left her in my care. I tried to live up to how I thought they wanted me to raise her, but I found out rather quickly that their way wasn’t the best way….but don’t tell them I said that. Anyways, much to my surprise it seems I didn’t do such a bad job with your mom. She grew up to be exactly what I hoped she would. She’s strong, independent and successful. All of the things that any father wants for his child.

You see for a while there we weren’t sure your mom was going to get all that. In fact on the day your mother found the courage to tell me that she was sick……I thought that all my dreams for her future were shattered. But they weren’t. You see your mom did what I knew she would do, she fought her disease. And while there is no cure for it, she battles it gracefully everyday and never shows signs that she has given up hope that one day it would be cured. Sure I know your mom is scared. She is scared that she won’t have enough time to be what you need her to be, but I know that whatever time she has with you, will make such an impact on your life. You should see the impact it made on your fathers.

When your parents met three years ago no one and I mean no one had any idea they would end up the way they are now. They are so in love, and so excited to be having you, even if it did take your father a while to get there, but he did. Which was good because I didn’t want to see your mother heartbroken again. You see I’ve seen your mother overcome some pretty hard things. The death of her parents, the death of her first love, the reappearance of her parents, the end of a relationship with someone who was never good enough for her, and then the three year push and pull relationship she had with your father. You see your mother is a fighter. She fights for what she believes in. It’s the one thing I truly believe that she got from me. And the one thing that I’ve noticed that she’s passed on to Georgie and Maxie. Georgie always fought for what she believed in, and I used to wonder where she got her strength from and it hit me one day it was from your mom. After everything that your mother has been through she always come out of it stronger.

Your mother has the greatest capacity to love. I’ve watched her put herself last as she cared of her dying boyfriend, I’ve watched her give her love again to a boy who didn’t understand the meaning of the word, and then I watched as she fell in love again after swearing that she wouldn’t. You see your mother moved away for a time and I knew that she buried herself in her work so that she wouldn’t have to put herself out there again, but she came back to help a friend, and met your father, and all of that changed. Y our father broke down her walls and got into her heart. You see your mother taught your father what it meant to truly love someone completely. And while they haven’t always seen eye to eye and have made their fair share of mistakes, mistakes that almost cost them being with each other, they both declared they wanted different things, but in the end they realized that they wanted the same thing. You. Well and each other.

You see you my dearest baby, are the thing that made both of your parents realize that what they had, what they threw away, was the love that both of them had been looking for. The forever kind of love. They have the kind of love that most people want and never achieve. And the best part of that is that you are going to learn that from them. You are going to see what real love is everyday of your life.

And if you learn nothing else from them learn that. Because without love in your life, then you have nothing.

When your mom first told me about you, I was worried. Worried about everything that could happen to you and your mother. Especially your mother, since she is sick…and I will let your parents tell you about that. But as I’ve watched you grow inside your mother, I know that she is doing everything humanly possible to make sure that both of you come out of this ok. And you both have to, because I’m not sure that I could take losing someone else that I love. I’ve already lost your Aunt Georgie, and I’m not sure that I will ever be ok with that…but I do know that I will never be 100% ok with losing your mother. She was my first child, the first person that I had to become responsible for and because of her I learned what unconditional love was.

I honestly hope that you are a girl. And the reason I say this is because I think it would be amazing to have a mini Robin, that’s your mom, running around. Might not make your father happy especially when dating is involved, but I think that a mini Robin is just what this family needs. Don’t get me wrong, I hope you look like your father too, but I’m very biased when it comes to Robin and I really would love to see a mini version of her. Especially since I know that you will be just like her in every way. Tiny, independent, courageous, strong, smart and beautiful.

But know this little one……we will love you no matter. Boy or girl you are going to be loved by many. You are just what this family needed, and in the words of your father, you are the love that holds this family together. And the proof of the love that your parents have for each other.

You were created out of love, accepted out of love and wholly wanted out of love.

I love you my great niece or nephew and I will always always be here to support you no matter what.

With all my love,

Uncle Mac.

Mac put the cap back on his pen and closed the journal. He didn’t want to re-read what he wrote because he was sure that if he did he’d just want to go back and change it…and he always told the girls to go with their first instinct, so tonight he was going with his. He smiled as he looked down at the journal sitting in his lap. He thought that this was one of the best ideas Robin had had where the baby was concerned. He was still worried about the fact that up until three weeks ago Robin was literally going to put he baby in a closet. But thankfully Patrick had talked her out of it and they had agreed to go looking for a house. They found one with a backyard that joined Mac’s. Mac would have sworn that Patrick would argue about that, not wanting to live close to any of their parents, but as it turned out Patrick picked the house saying he felt safer having Mac only a few feet away.

He shook his head as he stared across the yard at the dark house in front of him. The only light coming from his niece and someday nephew-in-law’s house was a light coming from one of the upstairs window and the security lights he’d installed around the outside of the house. He smiled as he realized that not only was Robin happy, but for once she was truly safe.

“I see you found the journal.” A half asleep Maxie said sitting down next to him.

“I did.” He told her. “What are you doing up?”

“The phone rang.” She told him. “The mayor was calling to congratulate you on your night.” She said. “I told him that you were asleep and I would let you know.”

“I wasn’t asleep.” He said looking at his daughter.

“I know, but I saw the porch light on and figured that you were out here writing your letter and I didn’t want to disturb you. The mayor said he understood.” She said as she turned to look out at the yard.

“Did you write your letter?”

“Yeah.” She said. “I did mine before yours. It was hard. I didn’t know what to say and most of all I wanted to talk about Georgie. It totally sucks that she will never get to meet muffin.”

“I know.” He said wrapping his arm around his daughter. “I know.” He said again as he kissed the top of her head. “But she will have you, me and Robin to help her know all about Georgie.”

“I know, but it’s not the same.” She said.

“I know.” He said again as he wrapped his arm around her tighter and once again stared out at the yard in front of him.

Letters to Muffin (Part 2)

Maxie sat staring at the blank page in front of her. She had agreed quickly when Robin had asked her to write the baby a letter inside the journal. It was something that she would have never thought of as a gift for her niece. But hearing her cousin’s reasoning behind it, she couldn’t wait to writer her letter. The problem was she was having a hard time putting her words in order. She wanted to make sure she didn’t say something stupid; something that would make Robin or Patrick upset, or make herself cry. She’d taken out a piece of paper from one of her notebooks and had started to write her thoughts down. She figured a few rough drafts would work for her, and then she would take the best one and write it in the journal.

Fifteen minutes later she had four different letters started and she realized that she didn’t really like any of them. They were either too business like, or too sad. She wanted to write the baby something happy, something that showed the baby she/he was loved. Sighing she balled up the pieces of paper and threw them in the trash. She then made herself comfortable on her bed and told herself to just write from her heart. ‘Her heart’ she thought, it wasn’t even really hers. Sure it was inside her body, but it was BJ’s. She felt tears well in her eyes as she thought about how lucky she was to still be here to see her cousin get her miracle. Deciding to talk about that she picked up her pen and put it to paper.

Hi baby,

I’m your aunt Maxie. I know that your mother and father call you muffin, but I’m sorry I can’t do that, so I’ll just call you baby. Now, I think I should explain a few things before I get into my words of wisdom. I’m your mother's cousin by marriage, but your mother is more like a big sister to me than she is a cousin. You see we were both taken in and raised by Mac. And he’s the best father any girl could have asked for. But you will realize that he’s also a great uncle as well. You, me, your mother and Aunt Georgie are all very lucky to be loved by him. He’s going to be over protective with you, cause you are our little miracle. See we never thought your mother would get the chance to have you, because she’s sick. But she’s having you, and we couldn’t be happier. We can’t wait for you to enter the world baby.

You are going to enter a family that is already so in love with you. It just sucks that you aren’t going to get to meet your aunt Georgie. She’s my sister, but she’s not with us anymore, and truth be told I miss her. I miss her all the time. There are times when something really good happens to me, and all I want to do is call her and tell her, ya know hear her say that she is proud of me, but as I dial her number, I realize that she’s not there anymore. I can’t call her. So sometimes when no one realizes it, I go to her grave site and talk to her. It’s kind of hard for me to start when I get there. Cause I don’t really know what to say to her, and I feel kind of silly cause she won’t answer me back. And the bad thing is I really want her to. I want to hear her voice; I want to hear her tell me something isn’t a good idea or that I’ve finally done something right. But I won’t ever get to hear those words from her again. And I am trying to make myself ok with that, I mean it’s been seven months, and I’m still so angry that she’s gone.

And the really sucky think is that we don’t talk about her. I mean I’ve had conversations with your mom about her, but me and dad aka uncle Mac, we don’t talk about her. I think he’s afraid I’ll break if he mentions her, and I’m afraid he’ll break so I don’t mention her either. But maybe we need to, I don’t know. I don’t know how to handle this, and I’m scared to ask Robin, that’s your mom. Because she has so much going on in her life with you and her relationship with Patrick, that I’m afraid to stress her out. But I want to ask her, and I know I need to. And baby, I’m promising you in this letter that by the time you are here, I will have talked to dad about Georgie. We need to be strong and healed when you are born; you need us to be that way. I’m just really sad that you will never know what an exceptional woman my sister was. But I will tell you all about her after you are born. I’ll make sure that you know her. I promise.

So a little more about me. When I was little I was dying. I needed a new heart, and my uncle Tony had this little girl BJ, she was amazing. I loved her, as did many people. And one day a bad accident happened and BJ was taken from us, but I always have her with me because I have her heart. And it was a gift. A gift that my cousin gave me, she gave me life, and I try to be a good person to honor her memory, but sometimes I don’t think I do. But I will tell you that everyday I am grateful for the fact that I have BJ with me always. One day I’ll tell you all I remember about BJ too.

Ok enough sad stuff. Let me just tell you now that I will be the one dressing you. You see I’m the fashion savvy one. Well the fashion savvy one that is still in Port Charles. Brenda, your other Aunt, is the fashion savvy one that lives in Italy, in one of the fashion capitals of the world. She will send you some awesome clothing, but I will definitely be the one picking out your clothes here. I am going to take you to the cutest baby boutique that I found. You will love it. Unless you are a boy then maybe not, so I hope you are a girl.

I mean if you are a boy that will be ok, I will still love you, but once you get older you won’t let me dress you anymore, I just hope that you have enough sense to not wear sweater vests like your father. I mean who wears them anymore? You would think the man being a brain surgeon and all that he would have enough money to purchase a better wardrobe, but he’s old and there is no changing him. However, you my friend will have me to help with that as well.

Sometimes when I’m with your mom I wonder what you will look like. I wonder which features you will get from your mom and which from your dad. I know that you will get your mothers capacity to love; any child of hers has to. I bet you’ll have your daddy’s dimples and both of their big brown eyes. You are going to be one gorgeous kid, cause you got some pretty good genes mixing to make you.

You are one very, very lucky baby. You are going to have the best parents, and I can promise you that they will not leave you on purpose. I know that with all my heart baby. They want you too much for that. You are going to know so much love baby. So much unconditional love that you won’t know what to do with yourself.

Thank you baby, thank you for coming into our lives when we needed you. You are going to make our family whole again, and because of you, you are bringing in more members of our family with your dad and his father. Your grandpa Noah is all sorts of awesome too. It’s really cool having so many doctors in the family.

Oh if you didn’t know your mom, dad and Grandpa Noah are all brilliant doctors. That is how your mom and dad met through work, but I’m sure that one day they will tell you that story.

I guess what I’ve been trying to say throughout this whole letter was that I can’t wait to meet you baby Scorpio-Drake. And what I want you to know is that no matter what happens in life, know that you are always loved, and I truly do believe that Georgie sent you to us so that we wouldn’t be sad about losing her.

You are miracle, and I already love you so much baby.

Love always and forever,

Aunt Maxie

P.S. Welcome to the family.

Maxie closed the journal and wiped her eyes. She didn’t want to go back and re-read what she wrote for fear that she would either rip the page out and try again or make herself cry again. Placing the journal on her bed she walked to the dresser and grabbed a picture of Georgie and some tape. She walked back to the journal and opened it to the end of her letter and taped the picture inside. She then wrote under it:

Georgie Jones, beloved sister and Aunt. I know you can’t know her baby, but this way at least you’ll know what she looked like, and know that if she was here, she would have loved you too.

Closing the book once again, she walked out of the room and downstairs. She placed the book on the table with a note to Mac that Robin had given her explaining what she wanted him to do. She then grabbed her keys and left the house. Fifteen minutes later she stopped at her destination and sat down.

“Hi Georgie.” She said softly. “So today I did something I never thought I would have done. I wrote a letter to Robin’s unborn baby. You see Patrick got her a journal to write her thoughts down about her pregnancy and instead Robin has asked some of us to write the baby a letter. It was a really great idea. It was hard to write ya know. I mean what do you tell a baby. It took me a long time to figure it out but finally I did something you taught me. I wrote from my heart.” She said. “I told her about you. My baby sister whom I miss so much. I wish you were here Georgie. I wish you were going to be able to see Robin and her baby. I know you’d be so happy. You loved children.” She said as the tears fell.

TBC......up next Mac.

Letters to Muffin

Part 1:

Robin sat staring at the blank journal that Patrick had given her as a gift. It was his way of trying to get her to stop the online pregnancy blog that she had started. At first she was offended by the gift but then the more she thought about it, the more sensible the journal sounded. But she didn’t want to just keep a journal of her pregnancy, so instead she decided to turn it into something for the muffin. Getting up from her spot on the couch she walked over to the desk and grabbed Patrick’s pen that he’d left lying there. She realized that he must have been using it when he reviewed some charts the night before and must have left it there that morning. Walking back to the couch she sat down and picked up the blank journal. She uncapped the pen and then as she sat for a few more minutes staring at the blank page before her, a smile crossed her face and she figured out what she was going to do with the book. After spending a few moments organizing her thoughts on what to say, she finally put pen to paper.

My Muffin,

Hi baby. I am your mommy. I just want to start off by saying how much I love you. You are my miracle. The one thing I wanted most out of life and wasn’t sure I’d ever get you. But you are going to be here in a few months, so that dream has come true, and let me tell you muffin I really can’t wait to meet you. Everyone is excited to meet you. You aren’t even born yet and there are so many people that already love you. There is your Aunt Maxie, Great Uncle Mac, Grandpa Noah, Aunt Brenda, Uncle Sonny, Grandma Anna (even if she can’t admit that she is going to be a grandmother.), and your daddy. See muffin, you are coming into a world where so many people love you. I can’t tell you how much it means to me to know that there are so many people that love you just as much as I do.

It also makes me sad that there is one person who won’t get to meet you….and it’s someone that you would have loved when you first met her. Your Aunt Georgie. She was so smart, and loving and so full of life, but she was taken away from us….but your Aunt Maxie believes that you were sent to us by her. And I believe that muffin. You see your Aunt Georgie was an amazing person and I’m 100% sure that she’d be so supportive of this pregnancy. She always told me all she wanted for any of us was for us all to be happy and healthy……and for the most part Maxie and I are healthy and happy. You see muffin mommy is sick. I have this disease inside me called HIV, which I will explain more to you when you are older, and while it’s undetectable right now, it’s still in me. And your Aunt Maxie is sick too, but not like mommy. She has a heart condition. She’s had it since she was young. When she was little she needed a new heart and she got one, from her cousin BJ, who was killed in a car accident. And while we were sad to lose BJ, we were glad because she gave Maxie the chance to live. But I’ll let Maxie tell you all about it when you are older, since it’s her story to tell.

I bet you are probably wondering about why I am calling you muffin, well it’s because we don’t know if you are a girl or a boy. So we don’t have a name picked out for you yet. In fact now that I think about it, your father and I haven’t even talked about names for you at all. I will have to remember to broach that topic with him….but anyways we were discussing your nickname, which I’m afraid your father may call you no matter what name we chose for you. You see when some woman get pregnant they say they have a bun in the oven, and well I don’t really like buns, I’m more of a muffin person, so you are forever going to be known as muffin. Though I do promise that by the time you see this we will have a name picked out for you.

As I sit here writing this I can’t help but wonder what you will look like. I wonder if you’ll favor me or your father more. I mean there are attributes of both of us I want you to have, like your fathers dimples….they are so adorable. Of course if you have them then I am sure you will come with the Drake knowledge of how to use them to get what you want, your father sure does. Oh and you have to have his adorable pout too……which of course if you ask him he doesn’t have because he doesn’t pout, but I will let you in on a little secret, he does pout, all the time. But it’s one of the things I love about him. Any ways, we were discussing you not your father, and I hope that you get your fathers capacity to love, because he has a large one, even if he doesn’t realize it.

I guess while we are talking about your father I should probably explain a few things. You see for a while your father and I weren’t together. We still loved each other, but at that point we just wanted different things out of life. Then your Aunt Georgie was taken from us and your father and I comforted each other and created you. And after that we slowly started working our way back towards each other. Things were rocky for a while though. You see your father is a very loving compassionate man, but things happened in his life before him and I met and they affected the way he saw his future. He didn’t see having a family of his own, I mean with him being a father, and because of this I didn’t believe him at first when he told me he was happy that we were having you. But don’t fret Muffin because over the past two months he has proven that he wants you and me. He wants our family. And we are going to be a family.

I guess what I’m trying to really say is that no matter what you hear about your father and I, you have to know that we love each other very much and we both love and want you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to us muffin, and I pray that you never ever doubt how much we love you.

It’s funny. I’ve loved you from the moment Kelly, my friend from work, told me about you. You see because of the disease I have I never thought that I would have children of my own. Of course for a while there I never thought I’d find love again either, but I did. I found my forever love in your father. He is my future, as are you muffin. You both are the family that I have been waiting for. You are the future I always dreamed of having.

I love you Muffin, with all of my heart, and my wish for you is that you have a happy, healthy life full of love, not just from your father and I, and the rest of the family, but that one day when you are old enough you find the forever kind of love. The love that your Grandpa Noah and Grandma Mattie had before your grandma passed on, and the love that your father and I have. The kind of love that lasts through all time. That is my wish for you my muffin.

I am going to end it here because your father will be home soon and he’d be worried if he saw me crying. I love you muffin.

Love always and forever,

Mom.

Robin finished writing and then closed the journal. She put it on the table in front of her and reached for a blank piece of paper. On it she wrote:

Patrick
Maxie
Mac
Noah
Anna
Brenda (though now sure how)

Smiling she capped the pen and put it down on top of the piece of paper. She then looked as she watched the front door open. Her smile got bigger as she watched him walk into the house still in his scrubs.

“Hey.” He said upon seeing her.

“Hey yourself.” She replied as he came over and leaned down to kiss her.

He sat down on the couch next to her and saw the piece of paper with the names on it.

“What’s this?”

“A list of names.” She said as she snuggled into him, placing her head on his shoulder and inhaling his scent.

“Yes I’m familiar with you and lists.” He said with a raised eyebrow. “Would you like to tell me what this list is for?”

“Well.” She said moving to look at him. “I’ve decided what I want to do with the journal that you gave me.”

“Oh really?” He asked as he laid a possessive hand over her protruding belly.

“Yes, and the names on that list are going to help.” She told him as she covered his hand wit hers.

“Well since I’m on the top of the list I think you should explain a bit more.”

“I wrote a letter to the muffin.” She told him. “It’s on the first page of this book. I want to have each person on that list write our baby a letter. Something that muffin can look back on years from now and now how much they were loved and wanted.” She told him smiling at him shyly.

“I think that is a fantastic idea.” He said before leaning over to kiss her. “But I’d like to make a request.”

“Ok.”

“I want to go last.” He told her. “I think since you started it, I should finish it. You know the opening by mommy and then ending by daddy. It will be like muffins very own fairy tale.”

“Ok.” She said softly as she allowed him to pull her towards him. “So tomorrow I will take this to Maxie and get her to add hers.”

“Sounds like a plan.” He said kissing her forehead and closing his eyes, enjoying the feel of the woman he loved being in his arms, with their once again joined hands lying protectively over their muffin.

TBC…….Next up Maxie.

Butterflies and LadyBugs

They say that good things come in small packages, and up until three and a half years ago he didn’t believe that was true. But now he knew better. Now he knew that it was 100% unequivocally true, because the best things in his life seemed to be coming in small packages these days. They started with the love of his life, a very sexy, bossy, intelligent, petite brunette who stormed into his life and turned it completely upside down. Since that day three years ago his life had never been the same. And now he had another small package that was managing to turn his world upside down again, and this little package had made her entrance into his life six months ago. And like the first small package, she was the tiniest, smartest, and most beautiful six month old he’d ever laid eyes on. She was the perfect combination of both of her parents. She had her mothers eyes and freckles and her daddy’s hair and dimples, and for only being six months old, she already knew how to use those dimples to get what she wanted, and he could only imagine how she would be trying to use them to get her way for the rest of her life, and if now was any indication of how he reacted to them, she would definitely have him wrapped around her finger forever.

And that was why he was now walking around Babies R Us looking for the most adorable dress for his dimpled baby girl. He already looked at three different racks in the store and still couldn’t pick out the best one. It had to be perfect, because she was perfect and deserved only the best. Of course her mother told him he was biased about how perfect the baby was, but he just shrugged it off and kept believing that he had the most perfect baby in the world. He laughed at how ridiculous he must look as he picked up another frilly dress and held it out in front of him as he tried to imagine what it would look like on his daughter. Daughter….that was still a word that brought out awe and amazement in him. If anyone had told him three years ago that he would have a daughter he wouldn’t have believed them. But like falling in love with Robin, this wasn’t planned but he wouldn’t trade his life now for anything in the world. He was happy. For once in his life since his mother died, he was truly and utterly happy. He woke up every morning with a smile on his face, even if his daughter woke him up screaming in the middle of the night, he loved it. He loved everything about being a father. From the late night diaper changes to her spiting up on him and causing him to change again before work. She was his life….well her and her mother. They were his whole world.

A sales girl came up, finally, and asked him if he needed help. He smiled at her as he told her that he had a very special evening planned for a special lady, and he had to make sure that she had the appropriate attire. At first the sales lady looked at him as if he’d lost his mind, so he’d explained that the dress was for his daughter. Smiling she said she understood and walked to another rack where she held up the most adorable pink dress he’d ever seen. He took it from her and held it up and knew instantly that it was the dress he’d been searching for. It was a pink summer type dress with ladybugs and butterflies on it. He told the sales lady that it was the dress he wanted and now he had to get her shoes. He said his daughter’s godmother told him the outfit is not perfect unless it has the right shoes. By the time he was left the store he was anxious to see his baby girl and show her the outfit that her daddy had gotten her for the evening.

He whistled to himself as he walked into the house and stopped when he saw mother and child asleep on the sofa. It was a scene that he’d gotten accustomed to seeing over the past six months. He’d come home often to find them both asleep either on the bed or on the couch. Robin would be lying with her arms protectively around their daughter; actually it had started while she was still pregnant. He’d often find her asleep with her arms protectively on her stomach. He loved coming home to this….to this life. A life with the woman he loved and their beautiful baby girl. He placed his bags down and walked over to the coffee table and sat down. He gently touched Robin’s forehead as he swept her bangs out of the way so he could place a soft kiss there. He smiled when her eyes fluttered open.

“Hi.” She said softly as to not wake their daughter.

“Hi yourself.” He said with a smile as he touched his daughters back gently. “How long have you been asleep?”

“An hour or so I think.” She said with a yawn. “Where have you been?”

“Shopping.”

“Patrick, Georgie doesn’t need anymore toys.” She said with a giggle. Patrick had been spoiling Georgie since the day she made her entrance into the world.

“It’s not a toy I promise.” He said reaching for their sleeping daughter. “Now why don’t you go take a shower and then get yourself ready? It’s almost five and Liz and Emily will be here to pick you up in two hours. Georgie and I will be just fine. When she wakes up I will change her.”

“I’ve given her a bath already. And I’ve laid out something for her to wear.” She said sitting up and touching his cheek softly.

“Don’t worry about it. I have the perfect outfit for our little munchkin to wear tonight.” He said nodding towards the bags on the chair.

“Do I get to see this outfit?” She asked him.

“Nope.”

“Why not?”

“Because my love, it’s a present for our daughter. She has a very special date tonight and had to have the perfect outfit, and the perfect outfit is in that bag. Shoes and all.” He said kissing to the top of Georgie’s head. “Now go get in the shower.”

“Fine.” She said standing up and moving towards the stairs.

“Robin.” Patrick called out softly.

“Yeah?”

“I love you.”

“I love you too.” She said before heading upstairs.

“Well Miss Georgiana it looks like it’s just me and you.” He said. “Of course you are still asleep so I guess mostly it’s just me.” He said with a little laugh as his daughter snuggled her face into the crook of his neck as he rubbed her back.

An hour and a half later Robin came downstairs to see Patrick dressed in a pair of slacks, with a button down shirt and a tie on.

“Wow. Don’t you look hot.” She said with a wink. “Big plans tonight?”

“Yep.” He said admiring her. “You look amazing. I’m not sure I want to let you out looking like that.”

“Don’t worry honey.” She said patting his chest. “I am a happily involved woman. This outfit is just to prove that I can still wear it.” She said with a laugh.

“Trust me baby, I know that you aren’t going out looking, but other men will see you in that and I’m not sure that I like the thought of you being hit on all night.”

“Don’t worry, if this ring doesn’t deter them, then I’ll put out a picture of Georgie and bore them to tears with all the cute little things that my angel does.” She said with a wink.

“That works for me.” He said leaning down and capturing her lips in a sweet kiss. “Have fun tonight but don’t stay out too late.”

“I promise not to.” She said kissing him again. “Have fun on your date tonight and makes sure she is home by 8. She has an early curfew ya know. I’m sure you’re not used to your dates ending that early, but she has a very strict father.” She said with a laugh.

“I promise that she will be home and in bed by 8:15 at the latest.” He said as he walked Robin to the door. Once she was safely inside Liz’s car he walked over and picked up his daughter and kissed her cheek. “You look amazing as well Miss Georgiana Madeline Drake.” He said sitting down with his daughter in his arms. “So what shall we do on our date munchkin? Want to see if Grandpa is busy? We could invite him to go out to dinner with us…..to say the Metro Court? Yeah I think it’s time I showed off the cutest baby in the world.” He said picking up his phone.

A half hour later he was seated at a nice table at the Metro Court with Georgie in his lap as they waited for his father to join them. He’d decided that since Robin needed a night out on the town he would do the same…..but instead of getting a babysitter he decided his night out would be showing off his daughter to the entire world. He’d laughed at how many women had tried to hit on him as he walked through the park and into the restaurant. He couldn’t believe how many woman were attracted to men with babies, but his only focus tonight was on his daughter, with his thoughts every now and then going to his wife….hoping that she was having as much fun as he was. A few moments later he watched as his dad joined them, with a huge smile on his face as he took his granddaughter out of her father’s arms. Patrick couldn’t help but smile as he watched his father holding his daughter.

Later as he lay in bed with his wife wrapped up in his arms and their daughter asleep down the hall he realized that he had everything. He had everything that his mother wanted for him, a wife and daughter, his father back in his life and on good terms, and enough love to shelter him forever. He truly was the happiest man on the planet.
