Soap Dish Anon:
11/9
Please just tell me why won't they end the Patrickand Leyla stuff? Do they not get viewers are tuning that out? Didn't Night Shift tell them anything?
They are ending it. The actors were not lying to you this past weekend.
So, how was the news of the ratings taken by TPTB? I have to say I was so surprised that there was not a bump at all. It is disappointing
The ratings released today only cover 2 days of sweeps. It's not widescale panic but not happy days either.
But never sufficiently unhappy to lead to action apparently, just "discussions"
There is a plan.
The trigger to release it in full is dependent on the coming two weeks ratings
How is that possible without writers there to carry it out?
the plan relates to senior management on the show.
The long term of it is partially dependent on the strike but there are some titles (like consulting producer) that can be removed regardless of the strike.
There are three other producers at the show who could be impacted by the need for change as well.
Ultimately the show's performance during sweeps will determine what changes will be made behind the scenes. The strike affects some of the timing but not all.
Spill one thing of importance who was the brainchild to the whole Leyla/Patrick story? Thanks
the head writer
I did not see Peyla I said Patrick and Leyla scenes like the one today-why weren't those scenes cut?
Because they served a purpose. And no it's not pushing Peyla. (source)

It was already leaked about the Robin pregnancy coming. I'm happy to say.
I guess the question is who is the daddy..
I'll say this.
It's either a cop or a doctor. Wink (source)

By early December, two familiar faces will be gone.
By February, two more will definitely join them. Unless improvements are made, this number could be four.
If higher powers get nasty, as many as eight significant characters will die in the next four months. (source)

any hints as to who they are?
You know who the first two are.
The definites are a long term recurring character and a new contract character.
The likelies were hinted at earlier today.
Any others will be the result of the ABC deciding all their casts and crews need some trimming. (source)

Insider spill-is Leyla getting the ax soon?
Most likely. The character has gotten one of the worse receptions I've ever seen and the actress's work during sweeps was pretty inadequate. There are still people behind the scenes who want to make it work but unless NB shows some serious improvement or the audience warms to her, I expect the show will let her go at her 13-week mark.
She didn't go on contract until end of September
What do you mean by underpeform?
Didn't sweeps start just a week ago

Yes, but the whole thing has been filmed. From what I understand, she had trouble with some scripts, missed some marks in group shots, and generally did not act well, especially in her more demanding scenes.
Who are these people - and why do they want to try so hard?
Frons, for the most part. As for why, my somewhat-educated guess is that his pride took a big hit with the Night Shift fiasco and he doesn't want to admit to making a mistake. Also, Nazadin is very well liked by pretty much everyone. No one wants her gone, but she badly underperformed during sweeps and the audience hates her character.
I thought Frons loved Scrubs? How could he put Leyla in between them to back door a pairing for Patrick?
while signed off by Frons and Phelps - the ultimate storyline direction of NS was determined by Guza - he has the accountability for it.
there remains quite a bit of support for Scrubs - especially with Frons.
Really? Can't tell that by the writing or what's onscreen at all.
They are doing what can euphamistically be called a mid-course correction. hang tight
Do you think they can redeem the Patrick hate with how the story will play out? TIA
That depends on how intense each person's hate is.
Thanks for answering. Lets put it this way, will we see any regret from Patrick and talk about why he did what he did and slept with Leyla so quickly after the break up and talk about their issues? Thanks
That's difficult to answer because regret is a tricky thing. Are you going to have scene after scene of Patrick talking about how he fucked up and was so wrong in his actions? No. At least not yet. But their issues will be discussed from what I gather. I can't say everyone is going to be completely satisfied with what they give you because it all depends on each individual. I'm gone now SD. Thank you for the nice conversation. (source)

People disbelieving JT and KMc are going to have an interesting month. I hope they are capable of speaking the words "I was wrong" because they're going to need to.
Eh, doubtful. Until it shows up on my screen I'm gonna go with they were appeasing fans and nothing more.
Like I said, I hope you plan to apologize for this crap when the stuff they discussed happens.
Every scene they discussed has been filmed and in the can. There was no lying going on.
When is Leyla out of Scrubs story?
Don't be surprised to see her role practically non existant by the time sweeps ends.
Eh, still don't believe it. I've been hearing that since September and she never goes away and Scrubs keep moving farther away from each other.
Then don't. It's really no skin off my back if you do or don't. You'll see on your screen soon enough.
I appreciate you for trying but can you understand how I feel due to NS? KMc and JT cheered me up and I got the Leyla show. I was told NS and GH were 2 seperate things and she is still all over my Scrubs. I want to believe you but so far all promises have been empty.
No, I completely do understand. But one thing you have to keep in mind is that the changes made in NS weren't JT and KMc's fault. They didn't lie to their fans. Hell, they weren't even lied to. The story just changed halfway through. It started as one thing and became another. By the time they realized how bad of a decision that was, the story in GH had already began. But they have toned it down if you can believe that. It's not NS again.
And I know you won't believe me, but JT and KMc were not lying to you. The scenes they detailed are happening and they are good for the pairing. But you can't expect Leyla to just disappear. The show will not admit they were wrong so easily. But she is being phased out of their story. It may not seem like it now but it's true. She doesn't have much of a role at all after the ball ends. There's no such fallback position for daytime soaps. Those shows chew up so much dialogue, pages are practically churned out on conveyor belts. Even with stockpiled scripts, sources say most soaps will run out of words early next year. Fans of The Young and the Restless may have to wait months to find out if Victoria Newman wakes up from her coma — the one caused by that chunk of cement that fell on her head in that catastrophic parking garage collapse. During the '88 strike, producers ended up doing the writing themselves. Soaps don't wash in reruns.
All this is bad news for broadcasters. CBS' daytime soaps are a cash cow, and The Tonight Show and Conan O'Brien's Late Night generate a reported $334 million in annual advertising revenue for NBC when they're in regular live rotation. Ad time sells for far less in reruns. (source)

From Deadline Hollywood blog:
Soap opera sources tell me that the soaps continue production during a strike even after they’ve run out of Guild-covered scripts by hiring new writers for the duration (and protect their anonymity so there are no repercussions against them). But this time out there seems to be a new wrinkle. Word is ABC, which owns all the soaps it airs, is sending notices to its writers advising them to elect Financial Core status with the Guild and return to work -- or their jobs might not be available when the strike is over.
My note: As I understand it, Financial Core status allows writers to elect to be non-voting members of the guild during the strike and still work, however there's no guarantee they'll be allowed back in to the guild afterwards. (source)
